New music from Evan J Lawson

I am so thrilled to have 3 new works presented as part of Sun Songs & Cycles in November!

The first work is one that has been in the making for years - Meditations for solo violin. Our brilliant and meticulous violinist Helen Bower and I have been workshopping this piece since 2019 and I am so glad to finally see it brought to life!

The second work is also from before the pandemic, Share for two alto saxophones. This is a virtuosic work that plays with the idea of two musicians exchanging and sharing musical material and ideas. Ryan Lynch and Ali Fyffe are both firey and virtuosic players, so this tricky and at times quite funny piece will be beautifully performed by these two.

The final new work of mine to be shared is a new large ensemble work, called Sun Cycles. It will depict, as the title suggests, the cycles of the sun, from sunset, night time through to sunrise. The work will be a concerto-grosso (that is a work for an ensemble that comprises a group of soloists within it) for piano, percussion, electric harp and accordion. The work will also feature electric violin, my first foray into writing for that instrument.

It is a true thrill to be sharing all of these new works with you and I can't wait to see you at the performance!

Sun Songs & Cycles plays for 3 performances from 18 - 20 November at Abbotsford Convent.

Tickets are available now!
