Aleise (née Kate) Bright.

Soprano voice.

  • I had a piano in my bedroom when I was five and I started learning from Ministeps. I also did ballet classes and would dance all day in classes, then come home to my bedroom and dance all night.

  • I have two favourites, the first was the “Dancing on a volcano” project from 2016, and learning and performing Berlin cabaret songs composed during the Third Reich and in the prison camps. The second was from 2019, “Orpheus.” Creating new music is amazing!

  • I have a loud voice, I think, because I used to herd cows!!

  • I love Hans Holbein portraits, Edvard Munch, and the opera “Don Carlo.”

  • It changes every week. This week it has been “Philharmony” by Haruomi Hosono and “Don Carlo.” Most of the time it’s The Prodigy and Beastie Boys.

Since graduating with a Graduate Diploma of Opera from the Victorian College of the Arts, mezzo-soprano Aleise Bright has emerged as one Naarm’s most sought-after performers. She has distinguished herself in a variety of genres, including art song, operetta and opera, as well as participating in performances of new works.

Following student performances in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen and Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, Aleise became a regular in the Opera Australia chorus, touring Japan with them in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale. Aleise was subsequently invited to perform the role of Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Rome Festival Opera. She also performed the role of Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at the Wiesbaden Maifestspiele.

Aleise performs regularly with the Naarm-based ensemble Forest Collective and Opera Australia chorus.
